Mountaintop Topographic Surveys & Control

Atop Mammoth Mountain, we mapped the site for a new communication tower and tied it by geodetic control to Mammoth Pool, six hours away by road across the Sierra, so the antennas could be aimed precisely.

What it covers

  • Mountaintop topographic surveys
  • Static GNSS observations
  • Control networks at remote sites
  • Boundary, topography and records of survey for communication sites
  • Topographic maps for design
  • Survey control for mapping and GIS
  • High-resolution orthophotography
  • GIS data sets

We have surveyed utility communication sites on peaks from Catalina Island to the Eastern Sierra, for a long-time engineering client. The work includes boundary, topography and records of survey.

In Yosemite, we made a topographic survey from the top of Vernal Fall down to Lady Franklin Rock. It ran through Happy Isles and along the road back to Curry Village. On the Bridalveil Fall trails and overlooks, we did all of the topographic surveying and mapping.

GIS built on survey control

A map is only as good as the data in it. We build a GIS from the ground up, starting with good survey control.

We create feature-rich data sets. These include high-resolution orthophotography, topography and property boundary overlays.

A GIS suits large and small projects. Uses include:

  • Utility as-built maps
  • Company client and job records
  • Agricultural area calculations
  • Parcel data and land use information
